His Precious Blood!

When the hour had come, He (Jesus) sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God .” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after super, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.”  Luke 22:14-20

When most people think of Easter, they think of the Cadbury Bunny, colorful Easter eggs, pretty dresses, and Easter dinner. They don’t want to hear about how the Son of God, Jesus Christ, was beaten nearly to death, spat upon, ridiculed, and died by crucifixion—the most horrible form of execution imaginable. Oh, and did I mention, Jesus Christ didn’t stay dead! He rose from the grave after three days and is alive today! I know His tomb in Jerusalem is empty because I’ve stood inside that tomb. Jesus was placed in a borrowed tomb because He only needed it for the weekend. Muhammad is still in his grave, Buddha is still in his grave, Confucius is still in his grave, and yes, Elvis is still in his grave at Graceland . But there’s an empty tomb in Jerusalem because Jesus Christ lives and is seated at the right hand of God the Father!

When that crown of thorns was placed on Jesus’ head, the blood poured from His head and face. The blood from His head reminds us of where we’re headed—to Heaven. The blood from His face reminds us that we don’t have to face life alone. He said that He would never leave us nor forsake us.

When His back was beaten raw with 39 lashes from that flagellum which peeled back the skin on his back exposing bone, muscle and organs, the blood poured from His back. The blood from His back reminds us that even when we turn our back on Him and walk away, He’s always there to welcome us back with open arms!

Blood flowed from His pierced hands to remind us that no one, not even sin and death, can snatch us from His hands.

When that Roman spear was thrust into His side, water and blood poured from that gaping wound to remind us that He can deliver us from bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, and all the other filth we keep bottled up inside.

His precious blood flowed from His feet to remind us that Satan cannot “defeat” us and that our precious Lord and Savior will walk with us every step of the way through this life and the next.

When Jesus hung on that cross, you were on His mind. Happy Resurrection Day—He is risen!
