Sunday January 10, 2010 Microsoft Security Essentials Virus programs can become a computer hog and take over.  Many such as McAfee and Norton can't even just be simply uninstalled because they imbed themselves.  Click to learn how to make the switch to FREE Microsoft Security Essentials.
Since the beginning of viruses it has been said "why doesn't Microsoft protect their operating system and why do we have to pay for other companies (i.e. Norton, McAfee) to protect our computer?"  Well they took a while, but now they do and for no additional cost, you just need to have a legitimate copy of Windows installed.  I know that this works for XP, Vista and Windows 7 32/64 bit versions.

Fist thing you will need to do if you want to make the switch to MS Security Essentials is remove your old virus program.  If it is a pesky one that is imbedded then you will need to download a tool that will forcefully remove the program from your computer:
1. Norton users click here
2. McAfee users click here
3. Others, try Google and search for the name of your virus program followed by "removal tool".

When you are done with the full removal, be sure to reboot your computer, then proceed to:
http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

From here, just make sure you keep your virus protection updated and you should be good to go.  I have never contracted a computer virus or malware using Microsoft Security Essentials, however if you do please understand that you are doing this at your own risk... just as you would be if you installed Norton or McAfee.
