Sunday December 20, 2009 msconfig Using this program within Windows operating system can help you speed up your computer by 2-10 times!  Computers fresh out of the store with no added programs by you are already bogged down with unnecessary programs... this tip will help you free up resources on your PC.
Step 1.: Click the START button on your task bar (usually bottom right of screen and has a MS Windows icon)

Step 2.: Click "Run..."  If the "Run..." command is not in your start menu, then you must add it by doing the following: Right Click an empty space within the Start Menu and then click "Properties", next click "Customize...", then locate and select "Run command" and finally click OK.  When finished, continue with the rest of the instructions.

Step 3.:  In the space titled Open: you need to type msconfig then click OK

Step 4.: Depending on your version of MS Windows, your application window may vary with the appearance of this one, but you should see something similar.  All you want to focus on is clicking the "Startup" tab as I did in the screen shot below:

Step 5.: Click "Disable all" button or you can manually deselect them yourself.  If there is an absolute NEED to have something start up every single time you boot your computer, you can choose to select it again here... however if it is not something that you need running 100% of the time, then leave it deselected and just open or start the program when you do need it to run.  Most users will be completely fine running NONE of the Startup Items.

Step 6.: Click OK and allow your computer to reboot.

Step 7.: On the new boot you will see the computer running much more efficiently and also a window will come up alerting you that the startup has been modified, I would recommend you just check the box that says "do not show me this again" and close the alert window.  You are good to go!
